Hello Family!
Happy Monday! New dryer,
yay! Also, is Frau Benjamin still teaching? or is the German program just getting big at
tesoro? I know you're really excited to hear more about my new companion and
our week together, so here we go. [DN: Frau Benjamin taught Hayden German at Tesoro, the German
program has grown to needing more than 1 teacher, and Hayden’s brother Austin
has Herr Hopf]
To start, I spelled his
name wrong when I wrote last week. His name is Elder Mejía, not Mejilla.
(Mejilla means cheek by the way). He is 25 and from Bogotá, Colombia. He got to
know the church there and continued to investigate in Germany as he did an
exchange program here. He lived in Karlsruhe and Freiburg, then went home and
was baptized in Colombia as he finished his degree in Electrical Engineering. A
bit more than a year later he put in his mission papers and received his call
to The Frankfurt Germany Mission where he will spend approximately the next 18
months. Elder Mejía began his mission in Dortmund and is now serving in his
second area, the Heidelberg Spanish area. He speaks German very well and we
enjoy chatting primarily in German. Diligent and trusting in the Lord, Elder
Mejía consistently cries repentance, inviting and helping the sons and daughters
of God in this corner of the Lord's vineyard to reach their potential and come
unto Christ through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His Atonement,
repentance (Helaman
5:10-11), baptism, receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost and enduring to the
end (PmG
1, your Purpose).
Yep, Elder Mejía is
great, we have a lot of fun and we work hard. Elder Clemente is in Krefeld and
doing well too. In the past week we had lessons with our neighbor Mr W from
Cuba, with Brother K, and with Ms E from the Dominican Republic (member). We
didn't see Mr H at all last week nor did he come to church on Sunday and he forgot
his bag last Sunday, so we're worried about him. Mr W, coming from Cuba,
doesn't have a religious background. He believes that there is a higher power
out there that hears and answers his prayers, but discussing the nature of God
was totally new to him. We are made in His image Genesis
1:26-27. He is our Father, the Father of our spirits Hebrews 12:9, Romans 8:16, Acts
17:27-29. He loves us! 1 John
4:7-9. He answers our prayers James 1:5-6.
Understanding who God is at some level and praying to Him is essential and
building a relationship with Him.
